In 2024 and 2025, KOPERGIETERY will roll out several projects under the banner of MUZE MONDIAL. Muze Mondial is part of the City of Ghent's global solidarity policy, in which the city takes initiatives to combat global inequality locally – in Ghent – and to work towards a more just and equal world. Muze Mondial is being realised with the support of the city.
Within Muze Mondial, KOPERGIETERY will work on various solidarity themes tailored to children and young people. For example, we are setting up Nieuweling, a stage project with young people from Ghent and young newcomers on the theme of global citizenship. This resulted in a performance in December 2024 at KG Rabot.
In the audio project KL-IK, we explore themes such as poverty, human rights and inequality with young people through radio interviews. In collaboration with the young radio presenters of Blooshoofd, they engage in conversation with organisations in Ghent and draw inspiration from this to create their own audio fiction. How can we meet each other (again)? What does meeting mean in a global world? The audio installation will be heard at the Muze Mondial Festival in October 2025.
In BREEKBLIK, we tore open the existing framework. Together with schools in Ghent, both primary and secondary, we developed a musical-theatrical project around decolonisation and activism. What knowledge remains hidden and what do you come together for on the streets? In short-term projects, we created a performance about these questions within the school context.
RE:bel/reBEL revolved around finding your own voice. What does contemporary activism mean and how can young people rethink power structures? In a real spoken word festival, established names appeared alongside young slam poets, coached by Lindah Leah Nyirenda. The political dimension of cartoons and illustration was also explored in visual workshops by young(er) visual rebels. That you can express yourself with your outfit became clear in a parallel fashion project led by Lucie Kaisala. Fashion students from secondary school VISO put together a new collection using leftover materials from the thrift store.
Finally, parallel to the KOPERGIETERY performance “Code ♥”, a global project was carried out in collaboration with the Ghent-based collective Nerdlab. Within the “C0DE HART” project, they explored the image of humanity in the future. What does the future of our society look like?
What is the role of generative artificial intelligence? Their quest culminated in an exhibition featuring, among other things, an interactive installation where you can shape your own vision of the future using A.I.
All projects culminated in their own presentation moment, but will also be highlighted during the Muze Mondial Festival. From 2 to 5 October 2025, we will unveil everything in a city-wide festival in which all the children and young people, organisations and schools involved will participate, and where there will be room for (international) performances. Expect a programme full of theatre, film, audio and exhibitions!
